The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully coordinated with Gujarat Police and INTERPOL NCB- Abu Dhabi to return a Red Notice subject, Dipakkumar Dhirajlal Thakkar, from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to India.
Thakkar, who was wanted in connection with an international illegal criminal gambling racket operating through special software applications and utilizing Hawala channels, was apprehended in Dubai following the issuance of a Red Notice by INTERPOL. The Gujarat Police had registered a criminal case against him on March 25, 2023, alleging that he was the kingpin of the racket, which generated over 2273 crore INR in illicit proceeds.
The CBI, acting as the National Central Bureau for Interpol in India, played a crucial role in coordinating with international law enforcement agencies to locate and arrest Thakkar. The subject was brought back to India on September 1, 2024, to face charges related to criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy, causing disappearance of evidence, and offenses under the Information Technology Act and Prevention of Gambling Act.
