Shimla, July 30,
Himachal Pradesh experienced a cloudburst at Tosh near the Manikaran valley in Kullu district, resulting in significant property damage. The deluge destroyed a footbridge and three makeshift sheds, including a liquor shop, were washed away, flooded numerous homes, and disrupted daily life. Communication lines in the Tosh area were also affected.
Meanwhile in the same district floods in Palachan and Sahri Nala caused blockages on the Manali-Leh highway. The water levels in Solang and surrounding areas of Palchan also rose, initially blocking the highway, which has since been cleared. In Palchan village, three houses suffered damage.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu instructed the Kullu administration to initiate rescue operations in the affected regions. He urged tourists to avoid rivers and streams due to the risk of sudden water level rises.
The Brahma Ganga Nala in the same district also flooded, damaging several campsites. Late Monday night, a sudden increase in water levels in Brahma Ganga created panic among residents and further damaged riverside camping sites. The cloudburst was identified as the cause of the flooding in the rivulet.
On Monday night, Sarahan recorded 12 mm of rain, Rohru 10 mm, Sangrah 8 mm, Jogindernagar 6.5 mm, Sainj 6 mm, and the tourist resort Manali 6 mm.
