CM condemns assault on NRI couple at Khajjiar, State ensures to book the guilty 

Himachal Pradesh Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu confirmed about an alleged incident of assault on a NRI couple at Khajiar recently A spokesperson of the State Government said here that it has been learnt through media reports that a Zero FIR has been registered in Amritsar in a case related to an assault on NRI couple at Khajjiar in Dalhousie of district Chamba.

The spokesperson stated that Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has condemned the incident and directed the law enforcement agency to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident and ensure that the attackers face strict action.

A Spanish-Punjabi couple was allegedly assaulted in Khajjiar. The police would also wait for further details and communication from the Amritsar police station and act accordingly based on the report.

People of Himachal Pradesh are known for their simplicity and good behavior. Himachal is renowned world over for its natural beauty, rich culture, adventurous and religious sites which attracts crores of tourists every year.

The people also regard tourists as “Athithi Devo Bhava” and this one-off incident does not reflect well on the state which has always been a safe abode to the visitors and locals alike.

The alleged incident took place on the morning of June 11 at a parking lot in Khajjiar when a heated argument ended up in a fight between the two parties.

 The police intervened and took the injured to Chamba hospital for first aid. The couple, however, refused for both medical check-up and to register the case. Later, both the parties agreed for settlement in police presence.

It is worthwhile to mention that Punjab Chief minister Bhagwat Mann also called  Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu who is also home minister. Mann has shown concern over the increasing attacks on the Punjab citizens and NRI Punjabis who prefers to visit Himachal Pradesh often. Similar skirmishes have been occuring during the previous BJP regime, they notes.
According to the police press release couple including foreign spouse of NRI recently were assaulted by local people. The couple was reportedly creating ruckus in public places by alluring people to show case their palmistry but the counter claim could not be ascertained from the NRI.
