Obituary: by BD Sharma
Shimla, June 18
We mourn the loss of Vipin Kala, a silent journalist known for his qualities of head and heart, who passed away on Friday at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital (Ripan Hospital), Shimla, after a brief illness. His untimely demise has left his near and dear ones, particularly his journalistic friends in Shimla, in deep shock.
Vipin Kala dedicated more than 30 years to active journalism in Shimla. He was an embodiment of honesty and professionalism, distinct from the more assertive styles of today. Those who knew him remember his reserved nature and his reluctance to impose himself on others.
A memorable incident from 2005, when I was Director of Public Relations, illustrates his integrity. Kala Ji visited my office unexpectedly, a rare occurrence since he avoided unnecessary office visits. He was disheartened by a letter I had sent, which stated, “Since you are no longer working for the newspaper, your accreditation is withdrawn.” This situation arose due to a mistaken recommendation from his Bureau Head, who wrongly assumed he had left the newspaper. This moment underscored Kala Ji’s honesty and integrity, qualities that endeared him to many.
Vipin Kala will be remembered for his silent dedication and unwavering principles. We pray that his soul rests in peace and that his family finds the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
