CM dedicates New OPD block & Trauma Centre in IGMC.. Know about OPDs being shifted

Chief Minister, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today dedicated the ‘Trauma Centre’ in the new multi -storey OPD block of the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) completed with an outlay of Rs. 30.90 crore. With the opening of the new OPD ward, the doctors, the paramedical staff and the patients will have a better environment to work in and will enable best medical care to the patients. This will also reduce congestion due to heavy rush of the patients in the OPDs. He said that a sum of Rs. 12 crore was being spent to buy new equipment and machinery for the surgery wing, the orthopaedic unit, the radiology and anaesthesia section.

The new OPD block will house a Physiotherapy ward, Special wards, Emergency Unit, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Isolation ward, Computerized Tomography (CT) Scan, X-ray, Sample Collection Centre and Pathology lab facilities.

The floor plan of this block bottom to above is as follows: first Floor will have the Lab +Canteen, second floor will house Registration, third Floor Emergency and Trauma, fourth Floor-: to have Trauma ward, 5th. Floor Trauma OT, I.T and ICU ward, 6th. Floor houses Surgery OPD, Isolation Ward, seventh Floor will have Medicine OPD, Emergency med department, 8th floor will have the Skin OPD, Ped medicine and Special ward, ninth Floor-: Ortho , Physiotherapy, tenth ENT and Psychiatry, 11th floor to house Eye OPD, Eye Bank, 12th floor Radiology and 13th floor will have the Doctor’s cabin.

The block will have a special provision to treat the seriously injured and other serious patients on priority. The building has spacious waiting longue for the patients and their attendants. Besides, it will have separate cabins for the CMO and other paramedical staff.

The Chief Minister also interacted with the patients, the hospital staff and also inspected the new OPD block. He said that the Government was committed to fortify the health infrastructure and separate departments would be setup to strengthen the emergency medical treatment in all the medical colleges of the state.

There will be a provision of one nurse attending to six beds and a one doctor to attend to the ten beds with patients. Besides, there will be specialist doctors and paramedical staff to attend to one bed each in Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

He said that the state government would soon start the Robotic Surgery facility in each of the medical college in the state to provide the world’s best health facilities to the people. Apart from this, 5-G technology will be included in these health institutions to provide state-of-the-art medical services. He said that modern technology-rich and hi-tech hospitals will be set up in each medical block to provide excellent health facilities near their homes.
