Shimla, Dec 17
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, upon arriving in Dharamshala for the winter session of the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, received a warm welcome from the public. Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of the opposition playing a constructive role in the assembly proceedings.
“The government is fully prepared for the winter session and welcomes the opposition to raise public issues in the House for the welfare of the state,” said Sukhu. He urged the opposition to avoid walkouts and disruptions, instead advocating for meaningful debates and adherence to constitutional duties.
Highlighting a concerning trend, the Chief Minister noted that during previous sessions, the opposition often staged walkouts when ministers began responding to their questions. He called for responsible participation to ensure productive discussions that benefit the people.
Addressing media queries, Sukhu alleged internal discord within the BJP, claiming that some BJP MLAs were conspiring against Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur. He pointed to Jai Ram Thakur’s absence from the customary all-party meeting called by the Vidhan Sabha Chairman as evidence of such divisions. Sukhu remarked that while such meetings are a norm before every session, the BJP neither sent its leader nor a representative, which he termed a breach of protocol.
The Chief Minister reiterated his call for unity and constructive engagement during the winter session, emphasizing that the opposition’s cooperation was vital for addressing key issues facing the state.
