Cold-wave grips Himachal, as snow, rain hit region in past 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, the high-altitude regions of Himachal Pradesh have experienced a light to moderate spell of rain or snow, resulting in a noticeable drop in temperatures. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reports a decrease of two to three degrees below normal, intensifying the shivering cold-wave across the state.
Notable snowfall measurements include Gondla with eight centimeters, Hansa with three centimeters, and Keylong with two centimeters. Several key national highways, including National Highway -3 between Koksar to Darcha and Darcha to Sarchu, are currently closed due to heavy snowfall. Similarly, National Highway 505 from Gramphu to Chotta Dara and from Tandi to Tindi and Tindi to Kadu Nallah is inaccessible due to landslides. The Rohtang Top Road is also snowbound after experiencing one to two feet of fresh snowfall. The minimum temperature in Keylong reached minus 0.6 degrees, marking it as the coldest location in the state.
Tourist destinations have also witnessed significant precipitation, with Dalhousie recording 44 mm of rainfall, Bangana in Una with 33 mm, and Guler and Nagrota Suryan with 29 mm. Other areas experiencing noteworthy rainfall include Arki (28 mm), Nadaun in Hamirpur (22 mm), Jubberhati, and Gaggal Airport (21 mm each), Dharmshala and Palampur (20 mm each), Una (17 mm), Manali (15 mm), and Kufri (10 mm).
Minimum temperatures in various locations are as follows: Kalpa at 0.8 degrees, Narkanda at 2.2 degrees, Kufri at 3.4 degrees, Manali at four degrees, Shimla at 6.5 degrees, Dalhousie at 2.6 degrees, Chamba at 7.4 degrees, Solan at 8.2 degrees, Dharmshala at 9.2 degrees, Mandi and Una at 9 degrees, Jubberhati at 9.6 degrees, and Nahan (Sirmaur) at 12 degrees.
The coldwave continues to persist in the state, with today’s weather also remaining partly cloudy.
