Shimla, Feb 4,
Passengers travelling on the Delhi–Una Jan Shatabdi Express experienced moments of panic after unidentified persons allegedly pelted stones at the train near the Anandpur Sahib–Nangal Dam railway section, damaging window panes of a few coaches.
According to a news agency, the incident occurred when the train was approaching the Jindbari area en route to Una. Some coach windows were reportedly shattered in the episode. However, no injuries were reported, and the train continued its journey after the situation was assessed.
The incident has once again brought railway safety in the Una district under focus, especially along stretches where tracks pass through densely populated or open areas.
Investigation Underway
Officials said that unidentified persons are suspected to have been involved. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and local railway authorities have launched an inquiry. Surveillance inputs and local intelligence are being examined to identify those responsible.
Authorities have refrained from attributing motive at this stage, stating that the matter remains under investigation.
Recurring Concerns on the Route
Railway officials acknowledged that while this is the first reported incident involving the Jan Shatabdi Express on this particular stretch, earlier cases of stone pelting were reported on other trains, including premium services operating on the Anandpur Sahib–Amb Andaura section.
In response to earlier incidents, the RPF had intensified patrolling and conducted awareness outreach in areas located near the railway tracks. Officials had also warned of strict legal action under relevant railway and criminal provisions against those endangering passenger safety.
Safety and Public Appeal
Railway authorities have appealed to residents living near railway lines to discourage any activity that could compromise train operations or passenger safety. Stone pelting incidents not only cause property damage but can potentially result in serious injuries and service disruption.
The viral circulation of a video purportedly linked to the incident is also being verified as part of the inquiry.
For now, train services on the route remain operational, and authorities have assured passengers that necessary preventive steps are being reinforced.
Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
