Directions of HP High court: HP DGP Kundu shifted as Pr Secy AyushÂ
Shimla, Jan 2
In a expected move, the Government of Himachal Pradesh has appointed HP DGP Sanjay Kundu, IPS (HP:1989), as the new Principal Secretary (Ayush) to the Government of Himachal Pradesh in Shimla, removing him from the post of HP DGP.
This decision, perhaps came in light of the directive by the HP High court to shift him and SP Kangra from the post. The directive was given by a division bench in a matter of alleged threat to life to a Kangra resident businessman, who had raised allegations of effecting probe in the matter.
Noteworthy, that the former DGP Kundu has filed a SLP in the supreme court against the High Court directive of shifting him from the post. The matter is pending in the Supreme court, however the State government has decided to comply with the High Court directives.
Kundu, a seasoned officer with a background in the Indian Police Service since 1989, will take over the responsibilities with immediate effect. His services have been placed at the disposal of the Department of Personnel. The appointment comes as a part of the government’s commitment to streamline governance and optimize administrative functions.
Dr. Amandeep Garg, IAS (HP:1999), who previously held the additional charge, will be relieved from this duty to focus on other responsibilities. The decision is framed in the context of public interest and the evolving needs of the state administration.
The official notification, dated 2nd January 2024, was issued by Prabodh Saxena, Chief Secretary to the Government of Himachal Pradesh.
The announcement has been communicated to various government bodies, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, North Block, New Delhi, and the Ministry of Personnel, PG & Pensions, Department of Personnel & Training, North Block, New Delhi, among others. The ripple effects of this administrative change are anticipated to be felt across different levels of the government machinery.
