The Animal Husbandry Department, Solan, with the support of the district administration, organised a dog show as part of the State-level Maa Shoolini Mela 2026, drawing an enthusiastic response from pet owners across the district.
A total of 56 dogs from Solan and adjoining areas participated in the exhibition.
Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry Department, Solan, Dr. V.V. Lamba said the competition was held in three categories—large, medium and small breeds. Winners in each category were awarded cash prizes of ₹3,100 for first place, ₹2,100 for second, ₹1,100 for third and ₹500 for fourth position.
The coveted Best in Show title and the Champion of the Year Trophy, along with a cash prize of ₹5,100, were awarded to a Golden Retriever owned by Himesh Jaggi. Besides, the best dog in each breed received a cash prize of ₹1,000. All winners were also presented with mementoes, certificates, grooming kits, supplement kits and gift hampers.
In the large breed category, Himesh Jaggi secured the first prize, Devendra Dutt finished second and Abhishek Gupta stood third. In the medium breed category, Renu Jaswal won the first prize, Kashvi Kumar secured second place and Sanjeev finished third. In the small breed category, Yash claimed the first prize, Dr. Jyoti Kaushik secured second place, while the third position went to another participant.
A special feature of the event was the free anti-rabies vaccination provided to all participating dogs. The department also set up a selfie point where pet owners enthusiastically posed with their pets. A quiz competition for children accompanying the participants was also organised, and winners were presented with gifts.

The event witnessed an overwhelming response from dog lovers and highlighted the importance of responsible pet ownership and animal health. Assistant Directors Dr. Amit Atri and Dr. Vijay Kumar Pathak expressed gratitude to the district administration, departmental staff and all participants for making the event a grand success.
