Electricity Board Joint Front holds meeting with Chief Minister over Job Cuts and Unbundling

A delegation from the Joint Front of Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) employees and engineers met with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday to discuss pressing concerns regarding recent decisions made by the board’s management.
Key issues raised by the union include job cuts, Contract Worker Termination, Pension Scheme, Workforce Shortages and Unbundling.
The union expressed strong opposition to the unilateral decision to eliminate 51 posts, arguing that this would negatively impact operational efficiency and service delivery. Also the union demanded the reinstatement of 81 outsourced drivers whose contracts were recently terminated, despite the continued need for their services.
In the meeting they advocated for the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme for board employees, citing concerns about job security and adequate compensation for long-serving staff.
The union highlighted the significant strain on existing employees due to unfilled positions, which could potentially compromise the quality of electricity services provided to consumers.
Also they voiced strong opposition to the proposed separation of HPSEB’s transmission and generation assets, warning that it could lead to higher electricity rates for consumers.
Chief Minister Sukhu has directed HPSEB management to hold a follow-up meeting with the Joint Front on November 11th to address these concerns. The union is also organizing a convention and rally in Kullu district on November 7th to mobilize support for their demands, stated Hiralal Verma, a union leader.
