Shimla, Jan 1,
Former Deputy Mayor of Shimla Tikender Singh Panwar has accused the HP State Pollution Control Board of inaction regarding environmental violations during the ongoing Shimla Winter Carnival. In a letter to Board Chairman Onkar Sharma, Panwar attached photographs showcasing the use of banned plastic materials at food stalls on The Ridge. This, he argues, directly contravenes the state’s ban on plastic.
Furthermore, Panwar highlighted the proliferation of flex banners exceeding permissible thickness, flouting a March 2024 High Court order. He urged the Board to inspect these banners and take action against violators.
Notably, Panwar had previously filed an FIR regarding the stage setup for the Winter carnival on vulnerable ridge tanks.
