Mandi/Chamba, August 20 Four people were killed and 11 others injured in two separate road accidents in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday, with two of the injured reported to be in critical condition.
In the first accident, three people were killed and eight injured when two trucks collided head-on inside Tunnel No. 12 on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway near Padhar in Mandi district at around 7:45 am.
According to preliminary information, the collision involved a Punjab-registered truck and a Himachal Pradesh-registered truck. The impact was severe, leaving several occupants of both vehicles injured.
On receiving information, a team of the Aut police and investigating officials reached the spot and launched rescue operations. The injured were taken by 108 ambulances to the Nagwain Community Health Centre, where doctors declared three persons dead.
After providing first aid, the remaining injured were referred to Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Hospital, Nerchowk, and Regional Hospital, Kullu. Two seriously injured persons were shifted to Nerchowk Medical College for specialised treatment.
DSP Padhar Lokendra Negi confirmed the accident and said the cause of the collision was being investigated. Police have initiated further proceedings as per law.

In another accident in Chamba district, a woman was killed and three people injured when a pickup vehicle plunged into a nearly 500-foot-deep gorge along the Gaihra-Piuhra road.
The vehicle was travelling from Gaihra towards Marour when its driver apparently lost control, causing it to fall into the gorge. Hearing the sound of the vehicle crashing, local residents rushed to the spot and, along with the police, rescued the occupants.
All four occupants were taken to the Medical College Chamba, where one woman was declared dead. The three injured are undergoing treatment.
Chamba Superintendent of Police Vijay Saklani confirmed the death and injuries and said police were investigating the accident. The exact cause of the mishap would be established after completion of the investigation.
