Shimla, August 20
Shimla Police have registered a case against two persons for allegedly transporting deodar timber illegally in the Chirgaon area of Shimla district, police said on Thursday.
According to police, a vehicle was intercepted for checking near Larot Bypass during the intervening night of August 18 and 19. During the search, nine deodar sleepers and one wooden plank, 10 pieces in all, were allegedly found being transported without valid documents.
The vehicle was taken to the Forest Rest House at Larot and the Forest Department was informed about the seizure.
The accused have been identified as vehicle driver Vivek Kumar, a resident of Chirgaon, and Azad Singh, also a resident of Chirgaon, who was travelling in the vehicle.
Police registered FIR No. 78/2026 on August 19 at Chirgaon police station under Sections 303(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 41 and 42 of the Indian Forest Act.
Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
