Shimla, Nov 9
Four lane joint action committee and Land Acquisition Prabhavit Manch gave the call to oppose and not support BJP candidates in November 12 Assembly election. President of four Lane joint action committee and land acquisition affected front convenor B R Kaundal, and secretary Joginder Walia said in a press statement that BJP in 2017 had promised four times compensation to the fourlane affected farmers of the state, but did not fulfil it. Giving a call to farmers, they said the time has come to teach the Jai Ram government a lesson by voting against the ruling party candidate.
Joginder Walia noted that for the last five years, Himachal Government had not implemented the Land Acquisition Act 2013, and Fourfold compensation was not provided to a number of farmers in the state. In comparison, Union Minister for Surface and Transport Nitin Gadkari was ready to give four times the compensation, and the Central government has already passed the four times the compensation in other states.
Moreover, in the manifesto of 2022, BJP is stating to provide four times compensation. He said by doing so, BJP is misleading people, and affected farmers are therefore being called upon to teach a lesson to this government by voting against ruling candidates.
Road projects in Himachal Pradesh mainly include Parwanoo-Shimla, Kiratpur-Manali, Mator-Shimla, Pathankot-Mandi, Pinjore-Nalagarh, Hamirpur-Kotli-Mandi etc. Apart from these four lanes, projects’ drafts are ready to make about 68 new national highways. The land is also being acquired for Bhanupally to Bilaspur-Leh and Chandigarh-Baddi rail line, and for airport construction and expansion. But the government is not implementing the Land Acquisition Act 2013, nor does it want to give proper compensation to the farmers despite the fact that the amount is ready to be shared by the Central government.
BR Kaundal, President of Land Acquisition Affected Forum (HP) said that 1 lakh affected families, including farmers, shopkeepers and other citizens, are affected by land acquisition in the 38 Vidhan Sabha constituencies. Nothing to favour them has been talked about in its new manifesto. Although a sub-committee was constituted at the ministerial level in 2018, but it decided to implement factor 2 (four times compensation). Moreover, even after a lapse of 5 years, the government has yet to decide on it. On the contrary, instead of giving proper compensation, the Jairam government has reduced the circle rate of the land manifolds, they added.
