Shimla, Nov 10
Barely forty-eight hours left for polling in the Himachal Pradesh assembly campaign. All the political parties and candidates are busy wooing voters to galvanise them in favour. PM Narinder Modi addressed two rallies at Shapur of Kangra district and Sujanpur Tira in Hamirpur on Wednesday. Congress President Malikarjun Kharge addressed a public meeting at Ghannati and Shoghi in Gramin. CPI(M) secretary Sita Ram Yechuri held a public meeting in favour of party candidate Tikender Singh Panwar at Sabzi Mandi ground Shimla and Vrinda Karat at Dhalli in favour of CPI(M) Kasumpti candidate Dr Kuldeep Singh Tanwar.
Yechuri said that Shimla is a historical town and people wanted to repeat the history of the 2012 MC election when left formed city MC in a direct poll. He appealed that Shimla town required educated, experienced, and pro-people leaders who could balance development and environmental issues. The last BJP government in the city didn’t strike the difference between development and the environment. He said that historical towns need to be preserved and the old heritage architecture here must be protected.
He said that the Congress party is giving the guarantee of OPS; however, it couldn’t explain how it would resolve the issue. Virbhadra Singh’s government 2003 signed an MOU to implement a new pension scheme, now alluring employees to restore it. He said that BJP and Congress are on the same page on the issue, and the promise was made only for electoral gain.
CPI(M) candidate Tikender Singh Panwar said that during BJP government, the smart city project fund was not utilised according to development aesthetics, only increasing concrete and steel superstructure in Shimla town. Adding, that the Mobility plan was also not given emphasis.
He said that people in the state are surprised over the massive use of money by the BJP on the IT campaign and the use of the helicopter in election rallies. Tikender Singh Panwar said that the state’s people are looking towards CPI(M) for honest and effective leadership in this election. He said that the party would fight against drug trafficking.
Meanwhile, Star campaigner Vrinda Karat also attended the roadshow in favour of Dr. Kuldeep Singh Tanwar at Baldiyana and Mashobra. She said the party candidate is more active in Assembly Constituency than the elected MLA. There should be a second voice inside Himachal Pradesh Assembly to strengthen Rakesh Singha, the MLA of the left from Theog.
Dr Tanwar said that he would end discrimination. Compared to the rest of the town, no HRTC cabs are running in the outskirt of Shimla, he added. People of constituency in rural areas are affected by Lumpy Skin Disease, but the State government didn’t compensate farmers.
