The state of Himachal Pradesh seems to be becoming a hotbed of COVID-19 infection, as a sudden spike is being noted here. Taking a look at the figures of the last 7 days (20th to 26 July), clearly indicate that the hill state has been reeling with a positivity rate of more than 15 percent, every day. Pertinent to mention here, that the WHO flags positivity rate above 5 percent for active containment and COVID protocol.
A media report indicated, here, today, that Himachal witnessed a surge of 1.57 times in cases per day.
The numbers of active cases on July 20 were 3157, which have risen to 4541 of date. Moreover, since the per day recovery rate is also very healthy (around 50 per), it was found imperative to take a look at the per day positivity rate of every district.
Slicing into the daily COVID reports by the State government, indicated that 5 out of the 12 districts of HP have been reeling with a per day positivity rate of more than 15 percent in the past 7 days. Whereas, 6 other districts have recorded a 7 days average positivity rate between 10 and 15 percent. Only one district Lahaul & spiti has reported a positivity rate of below 8 percent. The average positivity rate for the week in Lahaul & Spiti was recorded to be 6.92 percent.
Though at number two spot, for the number of active cases (907), Mandi district of the State has the highest positivity rate of 25.23 percent. At number two spot is Kinnaur with a positivity rate of 20.15 percent. Though active cases here only 89, amongst the least in the State.
Kullu district recorded 19.35 percent average positivity rate for the week. Here active numbers of cases are 255. The tally is followed by capital Shimla, where the average 7 day positivity rate was 17.33 percent. Here 654 cases are active, as of date.
Then the district with highest number of active cases, that is 1021, Kangra, reported a positivity rate of 16.08 percent. Followed by Chamba which has a 7 days average positivity rate of 14.55 percent, with 372 active cases.
The districts below 14 percent mark, are Bilaspur (13.72 per), and 284 active cases. Hamirpur, 13.73 percent and 326 active cases of n CoV. Solan with 172 active cases has a 7 day average positivity rate of 12.99 percent. Una , 11.83 percent, with 198 active cases.
Overall, India has 1, 47,512 active covid cases while average daily cases over the last week were 19,267 at a case positivity rate of 4.53%.
Country wide, as of today, 181 districts out of 734 have over 10 per cent weekly positivity indicating high infection rate while 107 districts have positivity between 5 and 10 per cent.
