HC holds full court reference on the demise of former judge

Shimla, June 24
Himachal Pradesh High court held a full court reference to honor the memory of former of Justice Devinder Gupta, who passed away on June 17, 2024, at the age of 81.
Justice Gupta’s esteemed career included serving as a judge in the High Court of Himachal Pradesh, the Delhi High Court, and as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
Born on April 4, 1943, in Shimla, Justice Gupta began his legal journey as an advocate on March 23, 1967.
He practiced in various branches of law and ascended to the High Court of Himachal Pradesh. His distinguished career was marked by his dedication and legal acumen, earning him the designation of Senior Advocate of the H.P. High Court.
He was appointed as a permanent judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court on June 25, 1990, and later transferred to the Delhi High Court in April 1994.
Known for his integrity and fearlessness, Justice Gupta served as Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court from 2003 until his retirement in 2005.
The Full Court Reference saw the attendance of all judges of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh, including Chief Justice.
Tributes were also paid by prominent legal personalities such as Advocate General Anup Rattan and Deputy Solicitor General of India, Balram Sharma.
The proceedings included a two-minute silence to honor Justice Gupta’s legacy. The Registrar General of the High Court, conducted the proceedings, ensuring a dignified tribute to a respected jurist remembered for his significant contributions to the judiciary.
