HC Reserves order on bail plea of BJP leaders Bindal, Sukhram

The Himachal Pradesh High Court has reserved its decision on interim bail pleas filed by BJP state president Dr. Rajiv Bindal and MLA Sukhram Chaudhary, who are among the accused in a case involving communal violence and attempt to murder.
A bench of Justice Virender Singh reserved the order after hearing arguments from both sides on July 8. Advocate General Anup Rattan, representing the state, strongly opposed the bail plea. He argued that the petitioners, holding significant political positions, had incited communal tensions and endangered public peace. He emphasized that the FIR charges pertain to disturbing harmony between two religious communities and leading violent protests.
The Sirmaur police have booked several BJP leaders, including Bindal and Sukhram, in connection with the stone-pelting incident at Majra on June 13. The incident reportedly occurred during a protest when a mob moved toward a youth’s residence, triggering violent clashes. Over 10 people, including police personnel, sustained injuries.
Appearing personally before the court, the petitioners maintained that they were cooperating fully in the investigation. Their counsel contested the government’s claims, asserting that no direct involvement of the petitioners had been established and that interim relief should continue.
The interim bail previously granted to the accused remains in effect until the court delivers its judgment.
