Heavy Monsoon rain trigger alerts in Kullu district

Following intense monsoon rainfall last night, the district administration has issued an alert for residents living along the Beas, Parvati, and Tirthan rivers in Kullu district, as water levels continue to rise.
Authorities have urged residents in areas along the riverbanks, including Jiya and Bhuntar, to evacuate their homes and move to safer locations. The potential for dam bursts due to the flooding is a significant concern, with the Beas and Tirthan rivers also experiencing increased water levels.
The Malana Forest and Malana Two Power Project have sustained substantial damage due to a cloudburst during heavy rainfall in Malana Nallah.
The water level of the Parvati River has surpassed the danger mark due to excessive rainfall.
All residents are advised to stay in safe locations, away from rivers and drains.
The entire Kullu district, along with parts of Shimla and Mandi, are facing severe flooding and the toll of casualties may rise.
Overnight rain has hampered rescue operations, as many link roads to affected areas remain closed. Local villagers have initiated community-level relief and rescue efforts.
The flood-affected regions are not only topographically fragile but also poorly connected, scattered across three districts that lack interlinked roads.
