Shimla, Sept 26,
Himachal Pradesh continues to experience intense rainfall as several areas in the state, particularly Sirmaur district, have been battered by heavy downpours since last night.
The Meteorological Department’s warning of severe weather has materialized, disrupting daily life across many regions.
In the Paonta Sahib area of Sirmaur, torrential rains have caused significant damage, particularly in the Aanj Bhoj area of Giripar, where 11 panchayats have been cut off from communication. The bridge over Amboya Khad has been partially damaged due to debris, and vehicular movement has been halted to prevent accidents.
The obstruction of this vital link has left the local population stranded, affecting access to essential services.
Given the ongoing rains and damage to the roads, SDM Paonta Sahib Gunjit Cheema has declared a holiday in all educational institutions within the division to ensure the safety of students and staff. This preventive measure highlights the severity of the weather conditions in the region.
Apart from Sirmaur, other parts of Himachal Pradesh, including Shimla and Solan, are also facing the brunt of the monsoon. Heavy rainfall has been reported in various areas, leading to the risk of landslides and disruptions in traffic. Shimla is currently enveloped in dense fog, reducing visibility to less than 50 meters, making travel hazardous for commuters.
Due to landslide last night in Thai village near the under construction Dr. Radhakrishnan Medical College Hamirpur, there is a danger of the residential house collapsing.
The two-storey house located on the side of the National Highway can collapse anytime. After the landslide, the family spent the whole night outside the house with children in a tent.
The kitchen built with the house has been damaged, while the foundation has also been shaken due to the landslide.
Fearful of the hill sliding due to the landslide, the family members spent the night by making a hut near the house with two small children, so that there is no loss of life due to the sudden collapse of the house. The head of the family, Hoshiyar Singh, who has been bedridden for the last two months after the road accident, said that he had built a house for the family with great difficulty, but now due to the landslide the house has started swinging in the air. The house can collapse anytime.
He said that he has also given written information about this to the Deputy Commissioner Hamirpur and Gram Panchayat Jolasappad. But till now no rescue and relief work has been started by the administration. However, Deputy Commissioner Hamirpur has marked the complaint letter to SDM Naidun for necessary action.
Jolsappad Panchayat Pradhan Meena Kumari said that she has visited the spot and assessed the damage caused by the landslide and the danger posed to the residential house.
The local Panchayat is with the affected family. She said that the Halka Patwari has been called on the spot and made aware of the situation, so that the affected family can get proper help soon. But at present nothing has been done by the administration.
The state is on high alert as the weather conditions continue to deteriorate. The authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from vulnerable areas like riverbanks and landslide-prone zones. Emergency services are on standby, prepared to respond to any situation that may arise due to the adverse weather.
The Meteorological Department has forecast more rain in the coming days, and residents are advised to take precautions to minimize the risk of accidents or other damages. The persistent heavy rains are expected to continue impacting life in the state until conditions improve.
