The government of Himachal Pradesh has responded to a question raised by Dharamshala MLA Sudhir Sharma regarding the closure of institutions within various boards and corporations. According to the government’s statement, only one institution has been closed in the past two years out of the 28. In a reply they stated that the Himachal Pradesh Social Welfare Board under the Directorate of Women and Child Development was closed via a government notification on January 5, 2024.

Prior to its closure on January 6, 2024, the Himachal Pradesh Social Welfare Board had a total of 206 sanctioned posts. The government has confirmed that none of these posts were abolished after the board was closed. Instead, all 22 employees were placed on special deputation to the Directorate of Women and Child Development and the Directorate of Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, and Minorities.
The breakdown of the sanctioned posts at the time of the board’s closure was as Group A: 1 sanctioned post, which was filled. Group B: 0 sanctioned posts. Group C: 193 sanctioned posts, with 15 filled and 177 vacant and Group D: 12 sanctioned posts, with 7 filled and 6 vacant.
In total, there were 23 filled positions, consisting of 22 employees and 1 officer. The government stated that any further information from other boards and corporations will be communicated to the Vidhan Sabha as it becomes available
