Himachal Pradesh Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi has raised concerns about frequent drone sightings near the Indo-China border in Kinnaur district. Negi, who is also the MLA from Kinnaur, expressed alarm over the possibility that these drones might be involved in surveillance and espionage activities.
In a recent statement to the media, Negi confirmed that multiple drones had been observed flying near the border area over the past week. “Several people have informed me about repeated drone sightings in the region,” he said, adding that both police and Army personnel had also spotted the drones.
Negi emphasized that with ongoing road construction aimed at improving connectivity to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in areas such as Shipki La and Rishidogri, the threat of surveillance by these drones could not be dismissed. He urged the Central government to take note of these developments and respond accordingly.
The districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti share a 240-km border with China, marked by nine high-altitude mountain passes. Negi called for strong action from the Union government to address the potential threat posed by Chinese drones violating Indian airspace.
