In a moment of immense pride for Himachal Pradesh, Flight Lieutenant Arshveer Singh Thakur from Jakhod village in the Jubbal region of Shimla district is conferred with the Vir Chakra, India’s third-highest wartime gallantry award, for his exceptional bravery and precision during Operation Sindoor.
The young IAF officer played a pivotal role in destroying key terrorist strongholds in Bahawalpur and Muridke, Pakistan, delivering a decisive blow to enemy infrastructure. His swift, accurate strike missions have been hailed by the Indian Air Force as a turning point in the high-risk anti-terror operation. Remarkably, Arshveer is the only Flight Lieutenant to be honoured with the Vir Chakra for this mission, adding a rare distinction to his military career.
A proud son of Himachal, Arshveer completed his Plus One and Plus Two at St. Edward’s School, Shimla, where he displayed a deep sense of discipline and leadership. Born into a family with a legacy in sports and public service, his father, Narveer Singh Thakur, retired from the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board and is renowned in the region for his achievements and coaching in volleyball and cricket. His mother, Amarjit Kaur, is a physical education teacher in a government school in Shimla and an accomplished volleyball coach.
Residents of Jakhod and the wider Jubbal area have expressed overwhelming pride, describing Arshveer as a humble, hardworking officer who has never forgotten his roots. The honour will be officially presented during the upcoming national investiture ceremony, where the nation will salute his courage.
With this recognition, Flight Lieutenant Arshveer Singh Thakur not only brings glory to his home state but also stands as an inspiration for countless youth aspiring to serve in the armed forces.
