Kinnuar District Administeration warned by Geological survey of India for removing all loose small and big unstable rock from the Nigulsari hills above the road have decided to suspend vehicular traffic on Hindystan Tibet National Highway-5 from 0900hrs to 1800hrs on August 30.
Deputy commissioner Kinnaur Abid Husain Sadik said that a team of Geological survey of India have submitted a report of mishap also recommended and advised Administeration to keep on clearing loose and unstable stone, rock and exposed boulder to avoid further mishap on hill which caused the recent tragic incident.
A source in the GSI informed that the mishap could not be attributed and indicated by its expert owing to any major man-made reason behind this tregady (including minning and tunneling for road and power projects). However the envitible or possible reason for landslides is indicated to be the fragile ecology of the young mountain of Himalayas.
A notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner on Saturday copy of which is supplied to us here said that vehicular traffic would be restricted near Nigulsari (Kinnaur) from (09 am to 06 pm).
Decision was taken by the authorities after continuous shooting of small-2 stones in the landslide area at Nigulsari (Kinnaur) in National Highway-05 and on the advisory of GSI.
He said that on the top of mountain above the road all loose rock, heavy boulder and stones would be removed or cleared manually which may come down on the running vehicles.
” In view the danger of damage to the commuting persons or vehicles and the safety of life and property, Public Works Department) in coordination with other departments, would remove all loose small and big stones located in the hill above the above area” he added.
Earlier to this Administeration on August 13 had announced to allow vehicles during day time on the road and vehicles were not allowed during night hours in wake of frequently falling shooting stones.
As it has been stated that as many as 28 People were killed and 17 others injured in major landslides at Nigulsari of Kinnaur district as seven vehicles hit and disappeared in the mishap including a HRTC bus on August 11 this month.
