Shimla, Jan 21,
Security has been tightened in Himachal Pradesh, particularly Shimla ahead of Republic Day after a threatening email warning of a “human bomb” attack targeting Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was received by the Shimla district administration three to four days ago, confirmed officials.
The threat email, received on the official ID of the District Magistrate’s office, Shimla, warned that the Chief Minister would be attacked if he arrived to hoist the National flag at the state-level Republic Day function at the Ridge. The message was promptly forwarded to Sadar Police Station, Shimla, following which an FIR was registered against an unknown sender under Sections 351(3), 353(1)(b) and 152 of the IPC.
Pro-Khalistan angle being examined
Sources said the threat was allegedly issued under the banner of a pro-Khalistan extremist group, a factor that has put security agencies on alert, especially in the backdrop of the recent Nalagarh police station attack, where responsibility was claimed by a pro-Khalistan outfit.
Now, Cyber and technical experts have been engaged to trace the digital footprint, source and location of the anonymous email.
High Court also received hoax threat
Noteworthy that threat email was received by the Himachal Pradesh High Court a few days earlier, which was later assessed as a hoax after preliminary verification. However, authorities said such messages are treated seriously due to their potential to disrupt public order and create panic.

Security tightened, no cause for panic
Police said Republic Day security arrangements were already in place, but additional vigilance has been ordered in light of recent incidents. Authorities have urged people not to believe rumours, reiterating that there is no cause for panic and that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of Republic Day celebrations.
The investigation into the email threat is ongoing.
