Shimla, Jan 8,
A bomb threat triggered a major security alert at the Himachal Pradesh High Court on Thursday, prompting immediate deployment of police, CID and bomb detection teams to the court complex, official sources confirmed.
Acting on the alert, teams from Sadar Police Station rushed to the spot and have initiated a thorough search of the High Court complex.
According to police and court-related sources, the threat was received through a detailed email sent to the High Court registry. The communication claimed that explosive devices had been placed inside the High Court complex and demanded evacuation of the premises within a specified time, triggering immediate activation of emergency security protocols. Sources said the contents of the email were treated as highly serious due to the specificity of the threat and references to explosive material, following which senior police officials ordered deployment of bomb disposal units, CID teams and sniffer dogs, and initiated cyber tracking of the sender to ascertain the origin of the message.
As per a high court senior advocate entry and movement within the court complex remains normal while security agencies are conducting systematic checks of courtrooms, offices and surrounding areas.
A official version of the State police and other Central agencies is awaited in the matter and shall be updated on receiving.
No suspicious object had been recovered till the filing of this report, officials said, adding that the search operation was continuing and the situation was under constant monitoring.
FIR and investigation
Sources in the police department said an FIR is being registered and cyber forensic teams are expected to examine the origin of the suspected threat message. Investigators will verify whether the communication originated within the country or was routed through anonymised digital platforms.
Past incidents
Official records indicate that the Himachal Pradesh High Court and other government institutions have received multiple bomb threat emails over the past year, most of which were later found to be hoaxes after extensive searches by bomb disposal squads. In several cases, police had registered FIRs for criminal intimidation and public mischief, citing misuse of electronic communication to cause public alarm.
Police authorities said further details, including the exact nature of the threat and legal provisions invoked, would be shared after completion of preliminary verification.
