Shimla, Sep 25
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu visited Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla on Tuesday evening after experiencing mild discomfort.
According to a medical bulletin released by the IGMC administration, Sukhu arrived at around 8:00 p.m. for diagnostic tests, including a chest X-ray and an echocardiogram (ECO), to assess his condition.
Senior Medical Superintendent of IGMC, Dr. Rahul Rao, stated that all tests conducted on the Chief Minister returned normal.
“The Chief Minister underwent a chest X-ray and an ECO as part of routine precautionary diagnostics. The results came back normal, and there were no major health concerns at this time,” Dr. Rao informed.
The Chief Minister’s recent visit to the hospital comes after he had already undergone an ultrasound on Saturday following complaints of abdominal discomfort.
On that occasion, Sukhu was brought to IGMC early in the morning, where doctors performed an ultrasound to determine the cause of his abdominal pain. Fortunately, the ultrasound results also showed no abnormalities, though blood tests were taken as an additional precaution. Dr. Rao assured the public that the Chief Minister’s health is now stable, and he was advised to rest at his official residence, Oak Over.
This is not the first time Chief Minister Sukhu has faced health issues. Earlier, in October 2023, he was diagnosed with an infection in his stomach, as well as pancreatitis, which led to his hospitalization at AIIMS Delhi for a week.
Following successful treatment, he was discharged and resumed his duties. Similarly, in June 2023, the Chief Minister sought treatment at a private hospital in Chandigarh for a brief illness.
Despite these incidents, the Chief Minister has largely maintained an active schedule, attending cabinet meetings and fulfilling his governmental duties.
However, this latest health episode has raised concerns regarding his upcoming engagements, particularly his planned trip to Jammu and Kashmir.
The Congress party had named Sukhu as a star campaigner for the forthcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. His involvement in the campaign is now uncertain due to his health status.
The IGMC administration continues to monitor the Chief Minister’s condition closely and will provide updates as necessary. For now, medical professionals have advised Sukhu to rest and avoid any strenuous activities.
As of Wednesday, the Chief Minister remains at his official residence, where he is reportedly recovering well. The state government has expressed confidence that Sukhu would resume his duties soon.
