Shimla, Feb 13,
Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, has secured a significant milestone in its academic journey by gaining inclusion under Section 12-B of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956. This prestigious recognition allows the university to receive financial support from the UGC, facilitating its research, infrastructure, and academic development.
Under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Vice-Chancellor, HPNLU, the university has steadily advanced towards academic excellence and national recognition, informed a university spokesperson. The inclusion under Section 12-B is a privilege extended to only a select number of institutions across the country, placing HPNLU among a distinguished group of National Law Universities (NLUs), he added.
The UGC Act, 1956, ensures that universities maintain high academic and administrative standards. Section 12-B specifically recognizes institutions that meet stringent criteria in teaching, research, and infrastructure, making them eligible for UGC financial assistance. With this inclusion, HPNLU can now apply for various grants to enhance faculty development, research programs, and campus facilities.
HPNLU is now among the few NLUs in India and one of only four universities in Himachal Pradesh to receive this recognition. With approximately 25 universities in the state, this achievement underscores HPNLU’s growing stature as a premier institution for legal education.
Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena hailed this development as a collective success of the university’s faculty, staff, and students. “This recognition is a reflection of our commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and research. It marks a new chapter for HPNLU as we continue to strive for national and international academic collaborations,” she said.
