Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, has secured the 34th position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 under the ‘Law’ category, released by the Ministry of Education.
The achievement marks a significant milestone for the relatively young institution, which has steadily built its reputation in legal education and research since its inception. Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena credited the success to the collective efforts of faculty, students, and staff, while reaffirming the university’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation.
The NIRF Rankings, launched by the Ministry of Education in 2015, assess and rank higher educational institutions across the country based on a comprehensive set of parameters including Teaching, Learning & Resources, Research and Professional Practices, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity, and Perception. The rankings are considered a key benchmark for academic quality and institutional performance in India.

This year, the top five institutions in the law category were National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, followed by National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi), NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata, and Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), Gandhinagar.
University officials said the recognition reflects the growing national standing of HPNLU and acknowledged the support of its stakeholders in achieving this milestone.
