Shimla, July 22,
Extending greetings on the 56th Foundation Day of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu lauded the institution’s pivotal role in shaping the socio-economic and cultural fabric of the state. Recalling his own journey as an alumnus, the Chief Minister described HPU as not merely a centre of learning, but a symbol of the state’s development over the decades.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for the university to evolve with the times, particularly in an era driven by information technology and innovation. “To stay relevant, HPU must become a powerful symbol of transformation,” he said, urging reforms not only in academics but also in administrative procedures.
He stressed the importance of introducing new courses aligned with market demand and technological advancements, while discontinuing outdated programs. “Graduates must not just hold degrees—they must be equipped with skills, self-reliance, and the readiness to meet future challenges,” he remarked.
Highlighting recent developments, the Chief Minister welcomed the establishment of five new research centres within the university, calling it a step in the right direction. He also appreciated Vice-Chancellor Dr Mahavir Singh for initiating these progressive reforms, expressing hope that HPU would scale new heights under his leadership.
The Chief Minister expressed heartfelt thanks to the university’s teaching and non-teaching staff for voluntarily donating a portion of their salaries to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, aiding disaster-affected people across the state.
As the university marks over five decades of academic excellence, the Chief Minister’s message served as both a tribute to its legacy and a roadmap for its transformation into a modern, future-ready institution.
