Illegal Mining Mafia attacks SDM in Mandi

SDM Mandi Sadar Omkant Thakur was attacked by illegal mining operatives near Bindravani while inspecting illegal sand mining on Monday evening. Two individuals assaulted him, landing blows that resulted in the loss of a tooth.
The attack occurred when SDM Thakur, acting on a tip-off, reached the Beas River without police backup to investigate illegal sand mining. As he tried to stop the activity, two intoxicated assailants launched a physical assault. His driver intervened, preventing a more severe attack, and managed to inform the police in time.
District Commissioner Apoorv Devgan visited SDM Thakur at the Zonal Hospital in Mandi, where he was treated for injuries. The district police headquarters control room has confirmed the incident, and an FIR is being registered. Superintendent of Police Sakshi Verma stated that efforts are underway to apprehend the accused.
SDM Thakur has now recovered from the incident and resumed duty at his office. Authorities have taken a serious stance on the attack, reinforcing security protocols for future inspections.
