The India Meteorological Centre, Shimla, has issued a forecast for the upcoming four days in the state of Himachal Pradesh, prompting an Orange and Yellow alert. The alert warns of anticipated snowfall and rain from April 26 to April 29, 2024.
In light of this advisory, residents and tourists are urged to exercise caution, particularly in upper and hilly areas, which may pose safety risks during this period. The IMD’s weather projections indicate a likelihood of rain and snowfall across the district during these days.
Given these conditions, individuals are strongly advised to refrain from trekking and to seek shelter in secure locations such as their homes, avoiding unnecessary risks. Local administrations are also reminded to maintain heightened vigilance in their respective regions.
Additionally, the public is urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any natural disasters by contacting the District Disaster Management Operation Center.
The IMD has specifically flagged April 27 and 29 for an Orange alert, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and possible hail at isolated locations. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and hail are also anticipated on April 26 and 28 in various parts of the state.
Furthermore, the forecast indicates widespread rain or snowfall in high-altitude areas and rainfall in lower regions over the next three days.
Temperatures have seen a slight rise in the past 24 hours, with Keylong in Lahaul Spiti recording the coldest temperature at two degrees Celsius. Other temperature readings include Kalpa in Kinnaur at 5.8°C, Manali at 5.2°C, Narkanda at 9.8°C, Kufri at 12.2°C, Dalhousie and Solan at 12.6°C each, Mandi at 13°C, Chamba at 13.6°C, Bilaspur at 14.2°C, Shimla at 14.4°C, Una at 14.9°C, Bhuntar airport at nine degrees Celsius, Jubberhati airport at 15.5°C, Hamirpur at 15°C, Kangra at 15.8°C, and Dharmshala at 18.4°C, respectively.
