Shimla, April 19
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts warning of thundershowers and hailstorms in ten districts of Himachal Pradesh in the next three hours on Friday. However, many places received downpours and snowfall at high altitudes, disrupting normal life.
In the next three hours, districts Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmour, Solan, and Una may experience thundershowers at a few places and hailstorms in scattered places. According to IMD, the weather warning is applicable until 1830 hrs on Friday.
Looking ahead, the state is expected to have mainly dry weather, with rain or snowfall at isolated places for the next two days, and rain or snowfall at isolated places in the foothills and a few places in the mid-hills and high reaches on April 22 and 23.
Warnings have been issued for thunderstorms with lightning, hail, and gusty winds with speeds of 40 to 50 km per hour at scattered places, which may disrupt power, essential services, communications, and transport-related services.
The inclement weather may impact agriculture, and farmers are advised to use anti-hail nets and hail caps in fruit orchards to protect them from mechanical damage. They should also provide mechanical supports to horticultural crops and stake vegetables.
On Thursday, many areas of Jubal also experienced hailstorms affecting blooming apple orchards, and a bus skidded off on the hail-prone road, tangling in mid-air in Kullu district.
