Shimla, Apr 24, A sudden rise of Mercury across the foothills in Himachal Pradesh likely to create sweltering heatwave conditions in the coming days, the latest extended range forecast issued by the Meteorological Centre said.
The plains and low hill regions—including Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur and parts of Kangra—are expected to witness heatwave-like conditions, driven by persistently above-normal maximum temperatures.
In the mid hill districts such as Shimla, Solan, Mandi and Sirmaur, moderate heatwave conditions may develop, with temperatures staying above seasonal averages. The impact is likely to be more pronounced during daytime, with warm nights adding to discomfort.
Meanwhile, the high hill regions, including Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti and higher reaches of Chamba and Kullu, are also expected to record above-normal temperatures, though without severe heatwave conditions.
The forecast indicates a declining rainfall trend after April, which is expected to further intensify heat conditions across the state.
The Day temperatures are likely to remain above normal across most regions, particularly in the plains and mid hills.
Authorities have advised caution, especially for vulnerable groups, as prolonged exposure to heat may pose health risks.
