In a development, the Dakshin Railway Employees Union (DREU), affiliated with the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), has emerged victorious in the Southern Railway union elections. Reportedly, the DREU, backed by the Dakshin Railway Pensioners Union, secured 40.33% of the votes, while the Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU), affiliated with the All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF), won with 40. 22 % votes at the South Zonal level.
The Southern Railway Employees Sangh (SRES), affiliated with the National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR), lost the polls. This development marks a significant shift in the railway union landscape, with the CITU-affiliated DREU making its presence felt.
The elections were held to recognize the railway unions, and the results indicate a strong support base for the DREU. The union’s victory is seen as a testament to its commitment to the welfare of railway employees and pensioners.
