Shimla, July 16,
For the second consecutive day, intense deliberations continued at the Congress party office, Rajiv Bhawan, in Himachal Pradesh. The focus of these discussions was to understand the reasons behind the party’s recent crushing defeat in all four Lok Sabha seats. The fact-finding committee, appointed by the Congress high command, is meticulously reviewing inputs from leaders, candidates, and party officials across the state.
Today’s discussions involved leaders from the Kangra and Shimla parliamentary constituencies. Candidates, MLAs, district, and block Congress presidents provided their insights to the committee members, Shri PL Punia and Smt. Rajni Patil.
This follows similar deliberations with leaders from the Mandi and Hamirpur constituencies yesterday.
During the discussions, various reasons for the defeat were highlighted. Key points included a lack of coordination between the government and the party organization, delays in ticket allocation, neglect of party leaders, the influence of specific groups within the government, unchecked bureaucracy, the “Modi factor,” and the Ram Mandir issue.
These insights will be compiled into a comprehensive report to be submitted to the Congress high command, led by Mallikarjun Kharge.
Rajni Patil and PL Punia mentioned that leaders from Mandi and Hamirpur attributed the defeat to several factors. They cited the aforementioned lack of coordination, delay in ticket allocation, and issues related to the influence of specific groups within the party.
Former minister and senior Congress leader Smt. Asha Kumari emphasized the importance of timely candidate announcements, stating that early declarations help mobilize workers and shape the electoral narrative.
CPS Shri Ashish Butail pointed out that the delay in ticket allocation was a significant factor in the defeat. He also mentioned that the BJP had a head start in campaigning, bolstered by substantial financial resources. Despite these setbacks, Butail expressed optimism, noting that the BJP’s dominance is waning and predicting that Congress will reclaim power at the center in the next elections.
The fact-finding committee’s work is crucial not only for understanding the reasons behind the recent electoral defeat but also for formulating strategies to ensure better performance in future elections.
The committee’s findings will also be extended to analyze similar electoral outcomes in Uttarakhand. The final report is eagerly awaited by party leaders and workers, as it will provide a roadmap for the party’s resurgence in Himachal Pradesh and beyond.
