The Himachal Pradesh government has decided to bear the cost of internet connections installed at the residences of eligible government officials to ensure faster administration and greater accountability. Orders to this effect were issued on Thursday by the .
Under the new guidelines, officials who have installed broadband, internet connectivity or other internet-based communication facilities at their residences will now be entitled to reimbursement, on the same lines as the existing telephone and mobile phone allowance. Earlier, such allowances were limited to official landline or mobile connections, as per instructions issued in 2010.
The Finance Department stated that with the growing reliance on digital communication in governance, it has become necessary to extend the facility to internet-based services. The reimbursement will be provided category-wise, following the existing pattern for telephone allowances.
Eligible officers will be required to submit documentary proof of the connection to the concerned Drawing and Disbursing Officer through the Head of Department. All administrative secretaries, constitutional offices and heads of departments have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the orders.
