Shimla, Dec 7,
The ongoing protest at Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) led by the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) has escalated as key university figures, including Executive Council member Sunil Dutt Sharma and University Court member Suresh Kumar Verma, continue their dharna outside the administrative building.
The protest, now in its third day, underscores growing frustration with the university administration’s perceived apathy towards addressing longstanding demands. The absence of key administrative officials, including the Registrar and the Acting Vice-Chancellor/Pro Vice-Chancellor, has further exacerbated the situation.
The lack of a full-time Vice-Chancellor has compounded the crisis, leaving the university without strong leadership during a critical period. The postponement of crucial meetings, such as the Recruitment and Promotion Committee meeting, due to the absence of its chairman has further stalled progress on key issues affecting non-teaching staff.
The JCC, a collective of elected university organizations, has expressed disappointment over the administration’s indifferent attitude. Protestors have reiterated their commitment to continue the dharna until their demands are met, which include the issuance of pending orders and timely resolution of issues affecting non-teaching staff.
