Shimla, June 27
Paranjan Thakur, alias Golu, the son of former Congress MLA Bambar Thakur, was arrested by Bilaspur police after a prolonged search. Golu was apprehended while attempting to surrender to the Bilaspur court on Thursday in connection with a court firing incident.
DSP Bilaspur Mandan Dhiman informed news agency that Golu had been wanted by the police for the past week in relation to the June 20 court firing at Bilaspur. The case was registered against three individuals under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy), and section 25 of the Arms Act. DSP Dhiman stated that Golu was immediately arrested upon his approach to surrender.

The investigation revealed that Paranjan Thakur allegedly hired Sunni Gill, a resident of Killa Mohalla, Ludhiana, for Rs five lakh and promised him a job. Gill, along with Golu, sought assistance from Anmoal Sharma alias Gorav Nadda, a resident of Jhandutta, Bilaspur, who has already been arrested. The police recovered a handmade gun from the accused. With the arrest of Gill, Golu, and Nadda, all three suspects are now in police custody.
Earlier, Golu applied for anticipatory bail in the Himachal Pradesh High Court. However, the prosecution opposed the bail on the grounds that Golu was evading arrest. The court directed him to surrender before considering his bail application. A division bench of Justice Sandeep Sharma reserved the order on the bail application.
In a media statement, former Congress MLA Bambar Thakur claimed his son was being falsely implicated due to an old rivalry with a senior IPS officer. He denied any involvement in the alleged crime and mentioned plans to apply for bail in the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
The Bilaspur police had also booked Saroubh Patiyal for allegedly assaulting the former MLA. Sunny Gill, during Patiyal’s court appearance, opened fire on him, resulting in Patiyal being admitted to Bilaspur AIIMS.
This incident has stirred significant attention, highlighting issues of crime, political rivalry, and the complexities of the legal process in the region.
