Kinnaur Kailash Yatra 2025: Sacred trek to begin July 15 amid tight safety protocols

The high-altitude Kinnaur Kailash Yatra, known for its life-threatening adventure and spiritual significance, will begin from July 15 and continue till August 30, 2025. Preparations are underway to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the pilgrimage, which involves an arduous trek through rugged Himalayan terrain.
Presiding over a review meeting, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Kalpa Amit Kalthaik informed that the traditional route will begin from Tangling village, while the alternate path via Purvni Kanda will be assessed based on its current condition. Given the physical risks involved, all pilgrims will be required to register and produce a medical certificate before embarking on the yatra. A green fee of Rs 200 will also be collected at the base camp set up at Maling Khatta.
“This yatra is both spiritually enriching and physically demanding. Medical fitness and discipline will be strictly monitored,” said SDM Kalthaik. Online registration opens on July 11, while offline services will begin from July 14 at Tangling.
To tackle emergencies, a Quick Response Team will be deployed along the route. The Forest Department’s Range Officer Manmohan Singh has been designated as the nodal officer for managing pilgrim movement. The police, health, and home guard departments have been directed to coordinate and ensure that no lapses occur.
Large oxygen cylinders and medical officers will be stationed at Ganesh Park, while paramedics and portable oxygen units will be deployed at Parvati Cave—highlighting the treacherous nature of the climb. Clean drinking water, toilets, solar lights, and halt points will also be provided.
The district administration has appealed to local panchayats and pilgrims to support the efforts in maintaining sanctity and cleanliness. Further information and registration are available at hpkinnaur.nic.in.
