The Special Investigating Team (SIT) of the police arrested a man with 1,516 grams of charas near Thyanbagh in the Sangrah block of Sirmaur district. Acting on a tip-off, the police apprehended the suspect while he was walking towards Renuka, carrying charas in his bag.
During the search, the SIT team recovered 1,516 grams of charas concealed in a polythene packet inside his bag. The operation was conducted in the presence of witnesses, including former Panchayat Samiti president of Sangrah, Mela Ram Sharma, and Diudi Khadahan Panchayat’s deputy head, Ranveer Singh.
The accused has been identified as Liyak Ram, a resident of Chanjah village in Kupvi tehsil of Shimla district. Notably, he had previously been caught smuggling nearly 900 grams of charas and was granted bail after three days in police custody. That case is still under judicial proceedings.
Mela Ram Sharma, who was present at the scene, stated that strict action must be taken against drug traffickers. He emphasized that drug abuse is hollowing out society and ruining the future of students in schools and colleges.
