Shimla, May 3
In a major breakthrough, the Shimla District Police has arrested a proclaimed offender who had been evading arrest for nearly seven years.
Acting on specific intelligence, a team from Kotkhai Police Station apprehended Anil Bharota, a resident of Bagain village in Kotkhai.
He had been declared a proclaimed offender in a cheque bounce case under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, pending before the court since 2019.
Senior Superintendent of police Garauv Singh said the accused had deliberately avoided court proceedings, leading to his proclamation in Case No. 386/2019 (Prem Chauhan vs. Anil Bharota).
Following his arrest, Bharota was produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody. He has been lodged in Kaithu Sub Jail.
The Shimla Police termed the arrest a key success in its ongoing drive against proclaimed offenders, reiterating its commitment to tracking down those evading the law.
