The Mercury soared above 40 degree Celsius at eight stations of Himachal Pradesh on Saturday, wherein the state capital continues soaring above 30 degrees.
Indian Meteorological department said that heatwave may persist till June 17 in Himachal Pradesh. Maximum temperature of Una , Neri in Hamirpur and Dhaulakuna in Sirmour was 42.8 degrees each, Bilaspur 42.2, Hamirpur 41.4, Berthin and Chamba 40.8, Sundernagar , Sundernagar and Kangra 40.4 degrees.
Nahan 39.2 degrees, Dharmshala 35.6, Dalhousie 28, Narkanda 25, Kufri 24.6, Keylong in Lahaul 22.4, Kalpa 26, Solan 36, Jubberhati airport 34 and Bhuntar 38 respectively.
IMD issued yellow alert of Heat Wave, likely to occur at isolated pockets in the districts of Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, Kullu, Kangra and Mandi.
There is possibility of light precipitation at isolated pockets in the districts of Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, Shimla, Kangra, Kinnaur and Kullu in next 24 hrs.
Heatwave conditions may last till June 18 and after June 19 onwards pre-monsoon rain may occur at few places may give respite from heatwave.
Moderate temperature & heat is tolerable for general public but moderate health concern is likely for vulnerable people like infants, elderly, people with chronic diseases.
People are advised to protect them from the blistering heatwave and advised to avoid heat exposure, wear lightweight, light colour, loose, cotton clothes. One should cover head, use a cloth, hat or umbrella.
In an advisory for Agriculture IMD said that farmers should apply light and frequent irrigation to standing crops to avoid heat stress; provide mulching to conserve soil moisture and minimize evaporation.
