The South West Monsoon, which has been dominant in five districts of Himachal Pradesh, is forecasted to intensify in several areas over the next 24 hours.
In the next 3 to 4 hours, light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is expected in multiple districts, including Kangra, Chamba, Una, Hamirpur, and Mandi. Some areas may experience isolated heavy rainfall. Additionally, Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Kullu, and Lahaul and Spiti are also likely to see light to moderate rainfall with potential thunderstorms and lightning.
Currently, monsoon activities are concentrated in Mandi, the higher reaches of Shimla, Kangra, and Kullu districts.
Over the past 24 hours, significant rainfall has been recorded in various parts of the state. Dharamshala got 214.6 mm, Palampur 212.4 mm, Jogindernagar 169 mm rain, Kangra 157.6 mm and Baijnath recorded 142 mm rain.
The Shimla Meteorological Centre reported an appreciable fall in minimum temperatures, now remaining normal, while maximum temperatures are below normal. Keylong recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 6.9°C, while Chamba experienced the highest maximum temperature at 34.1°C.
The forecast indicates continued monsoon activity, with heavy rain and thunderstorms likely to persist in isolated places. The monsoon trough at mean sea level is passing through several regions, and a cyclonic circulation over West Rajasthan and adjoining Pakistan continues to influence weather patterns.
Residents and travelers in Himachal Pradesh are advised to remain cautious and stay updated with the latest weather bulletins. The monsoon season brings both relief and challenges to the region.
Rain and landslides have affected a total of 150 roads, including one National Highway. The breakdown includes 112 roads in Mandi, 13 in Sirmaur, 9 in Shimla and 8 each in Kullu and Chamba.
Power supply disruptions have impacted 324 distribution transformer regions. 259 DTR effected in Mandi, 59 DTR in Chamba and 17 in Amb area of Una.
Recent flash floods and increased silt levels have affected 55 water supply schemes out of which 33 in Shimla and 22 in Chamba
