Chamba, Aug 29,
A massive rescue and relief operation is underway in Himachal Pradesh as hundreds of pilgrims are stranded on the Manimahesh Yatra route following heavy rainfall that triggered landslides and flash floods. The disaster unfolded between August 25 and 26, leaving devotees cut off from communication and safe passage.
The Himachal Police have released an official list of stranded individuals to help concerned families get updates on their loved ones. This list serves as a critical resource, providing a direct link for families who have been unable to contact pilgrims due to the complete breakdown of mobile connectivity in the affected region.
LIST OF STRANDED PERSONS ON MANIMAHESH ROUTE
The list, while a source of hope for many, also highlights the severity of the situation. Thousands of pilgrims were initially stranded at Bharmour, with many more cut off in Chamba town due to a complete closure of the Chamba–Bharmour road.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been working tirelessly, successfully evacuating over 3,200 pilgrims to safe zones. The primary focus remains on the safe evacuation of the remaining devotees, with authorities providing them with food, shelter, and medical aid. The state’s Chief Secretary has assured the public that all stranded pilgrims are safe, and the administration is doing everything possible to restore normalcy. However, the continuous landslides and heavy rains are hindering rescue efforts, making road restoration a long and difficult process.
The state government has issued an appeal to all pilgrims gathered Chamba to return to their homes, as the repair of the roads is expected to take a considerable amount of time.
