Students seeking admission to Himachal Pradesh University would now be required to submit a self-sworn affidavit declaring that they are not involved in drug abuse.
The university administration has also decided to make parents aware of the dangers of substance addiction through letters and emails.
“This decision was taken during the 35th court meeting of the university, where the issue of rising drug abuse among students was a key point of discussion.” University spokesperson informed.
University authorities emphasized the need for collective efforts to maintain the institution’s reputation and tackle the growing menace of substance abuse at the college level. It was also stressed that the new education policy should be implemented in a phased manner to ensure effective academic reforms.
During the meeting, annual reports for the years 2021-22 and 2022-23 were approved, along with the financial accounts for 2018-19. Concern was expressed over the absence of some members from the meeting, with a directive to communicate dissatisfaction to those who failed to attend.
The university’s leadership reaffirmed its responsibility to protect the institution’s standards by setting broad policies and programs aimed at its continuous development and improvement. Updates on new initiatives, developmental activities, and achievements were also shared during the session.
Currently, the university has around 8,000 students and 1,300 research scholars. It has successfully raised approximately ₹123 crore from various sources for academic and infrastructure development. Several attendees, including faculty members and public representatives, contributed suggestions to further enhance the institution’s progress.
With drug abuse becoming a serious concern in the state, educational institutions are now adopting stricter measures, such as the mandatory de-addiction affidavit, to ensure a safer and healthier learning environment for students.
