Shimla, Sept 27,
Senior advocate Peeyush Verma has been elected as the new President of the Himachal Pradesh High Court Bar Association (HPHCBA) in a triangular contest held today.
As per information, Verma, a practicing lawyer since past 27 years, native of capital Shimla secured a thumping 691 votes, defeating his closest rival, advocate Dalip Kaith, who garnered 313 votes. Advocate Tara Singh Chauhan came third with 242 votes.
In the race for Vice President, advocate Kiran Dhiman emerged victorious, receiving 763 votes, while her competitor, advocate Madhurika Verma, secured 455 votes.
For the position of Secretary, advocate Devender Kumar was declared elected after receiving 631 votes, surpassing advocate Roshan Lal, who got 564 votes.
A total of 1,255 votes were cast in the election, and the elected office bearers will serve a one-year term.
