Penury of woman exposed on Social Media, on alert by LSA, admin comes out of slumber

Shimla, June 3

After a recent social media post brought attention to the dire circumstances of a poor woman in the Assembly Constituency of Education Minister Rohit Thakur, the Himachal Pradesh High Court intervened, prompting the district legal services authority to address the matter.
Responding to the court’s directive, the local administration sprung into action and conducted an inspection of Smt. Chander Kala’s unsafe house on June 2nd, 2023. The inspection team, led by SDM Kotkhai, included officers and officials from the Revenue and Panchayati Raj departments.
Upon confirmation from reliable sources, it was revealed that the panchayat is now working towards including the woman’s name in the Below Poverty Line (BPL) list. Additionally, the Block Development Office (BDO) is in the process of allocating her a house under the Mahila Awas Yojana.
The government has ensured that both these steps will be completed before June 10th, with the aim of reintegrating the socially isolated woman back into mainstream society. Furthermore, the panchayat representatives will encourage her self-reliance by involving her in a Self-Help Group under the NRLM scheme.
As an immediate relief measure, she has been temporarily relocated to a suitable nearby premise, with the expenses being covered by the panchayat.
The SDM informed the district legal services authority that the local administration will make every effort to ensure that her family receives the benefits of other government schemes, such as the Grihni Suvidha Yojana and Himcare, in a timely manner. They will coordinate with the respective departments to facilitate the process
