Shimla, May 1,
The proposed visit of the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, to Shimla from May 5 to 9 has been postponed, according to official sources. A senior officer from the central government confirmed that the decision was taken in light of several evolving factors.
Among the key reasons cited are adverse weather forecasts for the region and heightened security concerns following the recent Phelgaon massacre, which has led to increased tension along the India-Pakistan border.
The tragic incident has sparked nationwide concern and is believed to have escalated diplomatic sensitivities, leading authorities to reassess major public engagements and high-level movements. Given the current security environment, the visit has been deferred as a precautionary measure.
The President was earlier scheduled to reside at The Retreat in Mashobra, the official summer residence of the President of India. Preparations by the district administration were already underway, with a review meeting chaired by District Magistrate Anupam Kashyap held earlier in the day to oversee logistics and security arrangements.
Although no fresh dates have been announced for the visit, officials suggested that a revised schedule may be issued once the situation shows signs of improvement.
